Praying for Our Children and Grandchildren

The middle school years are a vulnerable time for young adults. Although adolescents are maturing and appear not to need as much adult supervision, they still can benefit from persistent, heartfelt prayers as they face each day. What a privilege we as Christian parents and grandparents have to faithfully intercede for our students! What can we pray about? What do middle school students struggle with? Here are just a few topics to help you begin:
Spiritually:
- Being rightly related to Christ (John 3:16)
- Praying daily (Philippians 4:6-7)
- Memorizing God’s Word (Psalm 119:11)
- Seeking the Scriptures for guidance (Psalm 119:105)
- Fearing the LORD (Proverbs 3:7)
- Growing in wisdom (Proverbs 4:7)
Mentally:
- Reading books, watching movies, and viewing websites that are appropriate (Luke 11:34-35)
- Thinking on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, and of excellence (Philippians 4:8)
- Having an attitude of gratitude (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
- Doing their work without grumbling and complaining (Philippians 2:14)
- Speaking and writing wholesome words (Ephesians 4:29)
Relationally:
- Daily repenting to God of their mistakes and sins (1 John 1:9)
- Sincerely apologizing to those whom they have hurt (James 5:16)
- Fully forgiving others (Ephesians 4:31-32)
- Keeping confidences (Proverbs 13:3)
- Being trustworthy (Proverbs 11:13)
- Cultivating a life that is more God and others-centered (Philippians 2:3-5)
Physically:
- Taking care of their bodies (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
- Eating healthy meals (1 Corinthians 10:31)
- Exercising regularly (1 Timothy 4:8)
- Sleeping peacefully each night (Psalm 4:8)
Let us continually lift up our children and grandchildren in prayer asking the Lord to help them develop healthy and holy habits that will carry them into adulthood.
